Louis Maclean "Lou" Hodgson (March 21, 1936 – July 7, 2012) was a Canadian politician, who represented Scarborough East in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1963 to 1967〔(Legislative Assembly records )〕 as a Progressive Conservative member. ==Offices== Hodgson was elected in the provincial general election in 1963 and served as a backbench member of the majority PC government under Premier John Robarts. While Hodgson did not serve in Cabinet, he served on as many as seven Standing Committees of the Legislative Assembly, simultaneously. Despite winning with a decisive margin in 1963, he was defeated in the 1967 general election by the Liberal candidate, Tim Reid in an extremely close three-way race with only a one an a half percent difference in the percentage of the popular vote for the first and third place candidates. After the 1967 election, Hodgson retired from politics. During his time in office, Hodgson established a Young PC Club in his riding and one its first members, Dennis Timbrell, went on to become a prominent Cabinet Minister in a future PC government. In the late 1960s, the government recruited Hodgson to establish the first drivers education programs in Ontario high schools. Prior to being elected, Hodgson was a Mountie in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.〔()|Children Often Follow in Politician's Shoes〕 He died in Haliburton in 2012.〔http://www.communityfuneralhomes.com/obituary.php?recordID=599〕 Hodgson is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Haliburton, Ontario.
